6.x Custom visualization

Hello all,
I'm using Kibana 6.2 and I want develop a custom visualization by myself.
Until now I've found only one tutorial based on Kibana 4.4.
Is still possibile develop a custom (simple) visualization?.
If yes. Is there a source where I can learn from?.

The Vega approach is a lot less effort, but writing your own custom visualization is more powerful.
