Can you describe how the hardware is supposed to be setup?

Phillips Hue is an LED bulb that plugs into normal light sockets. It's capable of a wide range of colors, and is controlled by a REST interface.
Delcom offers three-color led lamps on a pole that plug in as a USB HID device.

I'm using these in my office to keep an eye on the status of our production cluster.
