Backup and restore of elasticsearch indices

Hi All,

Backup team has taken the backup of path.data folder and provided us the backup. I copied the folder and placed in new server.

I have given the same folder in path.data property of elasticsearch.yml in new cluster . I am getting below error

myindex-2020.10 0 p UNASSIGNED CLUSTER_RECOVERED.

Is there a way to recover it.

Not really, no, see the big warning on the manual page regarding backups:

WARNING: You cannot back up an Elasticsearch cluster by simply copying the data directories of all of its nodes. [...] The only reliable way to back up a cluster is by using the snapshot and restore functionality.
