Posted in the wrong category before - I'll try it here.
To put it briefly I installed 1.6 on a brand new server and I can't get anything to connect to it even though I get responses from curl and I was able to create an index.
Running 1.5.2 and 1.6 side by side, on the same configuration of Ubuntu server, the only difference I could find is doing a "netstat -tanp" I get this line in 1.5.2 and it is not present in 1.6:
tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:55207 127.0.0.1:9200 TIME_WAIT -
