Clustering Across Multiple Data Centers

Hi,

As per the blog (Clustering Across Multiple Data Centers - https://www.elastic.co/blog/clustering_across_multiple_data_centers) it is not recommended to have clusters in multiple DCs.

When we create a new ES HA cluster using cloud.elastic.console, we get two nodes and one master node for resolving contention created in two DC's which are in two available zones.

The above article and the way clusters are created using elastic cloud is little confusing.

Can you please clarify my understating..

  1. Creating a cluster in multiple DC spread across regions in not advisable . Is this correct?
  2. Creating a cluster in multiple DC in the same region is fine?

That's correct, the latency is too high.

Creating a cluster in multiple DC in the same region is fine?

Yes, for instance, users running in AWS often create nodes in the same cluster in both us-east1 and us-east2
