CorruptIndexException on restore

I've taken a snapshot of my indices from Elastic Cloud, and copied them down to my local machine. Now I'm trying to restore them. When the restore starts, it runs for a while, and then starts spitting out "CorruptIndexException[checksum failed (hardware problem?)]"

Does anything leap out at the community about this? I'm still very much a newbie to ES. (I'm running ES 2.4.3 on Ubuntu Server within a VirtualBox instance)

What version are you running in Cloud?

I'm wondering if this is something related to how I'd set up the machine under Virtualbox. When I went and got a machine from a commercial cloud provider, the load worked nicely.
