Corruption of Elasticsearch indices

Does somebody know if we can have a scenario where a physical disk can become corrupted, while the in-memory Elasticsearch indices data is fine?

In this case, how can we trigger Elasticsearch to synchronize with the disk at some specified time interval?

There's no in memory index, so there's no way.
