Deploying elasticsearch as WAR

Hello,
I am using the elasticsearch-transport-wares plugin to deploy Elasticsearch as a WAR. Does anyone know if this will continue to be a valid way to deploy Elasticsearch? I ask because there have been recent changes with Kibana to disallow deploying Kibana as a static webapp.
