Hi,
How does ES manage environments where the different machines available
have differing amounts of resources -esp RAM and storage capacities?

Hi,
By default ES assumes all nodes are equal (so one node can easily be
replaced by other when allocatin index shards). But you can completely
disable data storing on individual nodes in which case the node can be used
as a client or as master node only.
However, if you have nodes that are little slower or have a little less RAM
or disk space then ES will not take this into accout currently.

Lukas
