Does logstash require elasticsearch or can it be used as a standalone?

Greetings,

I would like to know if logstash can be used as a standalone or does it have to point to an elasticsearch instance. I cannot seem to find the answer anywhere on the elastic site.

I'd like to simply use logstash as an ETL tool.

Definitely can be used standalone...

You will just use an output plug in other than the elasticsearch output plug in
