Don't see performance boost in ES 5 using data restored from 2.4 snapshot

I restored a snapshot from ES 2.4.1 to ES 5. And did my load test on the new cluster. However I didn't see any performance improvement (it's actually much slower).

Is there known issue using data restored from 2.4? It should be compatible but not sure what's the performance impact. I know field types changed in 5, Do I need to reindex using new mapping to get the performance boost?
