I have an existing elasticsearch installation which i'm running off an executable (not as a service).
Now, I have decided to run elasticsearch as a service for easier access. After installing elasticsearch as a service, Can I just move the data folder from the existing elasticsearch installation to the new installation? the cluster name and the node names are all the same for both the installations
That should work, but it's not fully supported. You could also add the new node to the existing cluster and then move the data over.
