Email Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am trying to setup alerts using email as the notification vehicle. Unfortunately, the alerts are not showing up in the inbox. So I need to trace where the failure is occurring as it may not even be an elastic issue. The question is, where in the elastic scheme of things can I check when the email action is triggered and whether it's failing or succeeding. Thank you.
