Even using version 11 of the jdk this error occurs, I am using the most current version .

/bin/logstash -e 'input { stdin { } } output { stdout {} }'
Unrecognized option: -
Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine.
Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit.
