Hey all, I'm trying to get Elasticsearch configured with Enterprise Search. I'm using docker compose to do so. I'm using the following files:
# Password for the 'elastic' user (at least 6 characters)
ELASTIC_PASSWORD=supersecretelasticpw
# Password for the 'kibana_system' user (at least 6 characters)
KIBANA_PASSWORD=supersecretkibanapw
# Version of Elastic products
STACK_VERSION=8.13.2
# Set the cluster name
CLUSTER_NAME=my-cluster
# Set to 'basic' or 'trial' to automatically start the 30-day trial
#LICENSE=basic
LICENSE=trial
# Port to expose Elasticsearch HTTP API to the host
#ES_PORT=9200
ES_PORT=127.0.0.1:9200
# Port to expose Kibana to the host
KIBANA_PORT=5601
#KIBANA_PORT=80
# Increase or decrease based on the available host memory (in bytes)
MEM_LIMIT=32000000000
# Project namespace (defaults to the current folder name if not set)
#COMPOSE_PROJECT_NAME=myproject
ENTERPRISE_SEARCH_PORT=3002
ENCRYPTION_KEYS=secret
And as suggested from the Enterprise Search installation page for docker, this is my docker-compose.yml

I'm bringing the cluster down with docker compose up -d
, and down with docker compose down -v
. Earlier today I had already done an install and bring-up once using this method of just elasticsearch (no enterprise search) and it worked just fine. I actually even did manage to get elasticsearch + enterprise search working no problem the first time I tried it (using these exact .env
and docker-compose.yml
files), but what "just worked" before seems to have randomly... stopped working. Now, when I do this... elasticsearch seems to install/start normally but is refusing my password. As in I'll go to localhost:5601/
, and try to sign in as the elastic
user, but it will consistently reject the password I set in the .env file. What's even weirder is that it will accept the kibana_system
password (and so will let me technically log in as kibana_system
), but then of course will immediately throw the error that I'm not allowed to access ES using that account.
I don't believe that I'm deviating too far from the happy path so far, so I'm not sure where the issue is coming from. Any help is appreciated.
