Graph Exploration Times Out

Hello,

I'm a relative newcomer to X-Pack's Graph function and I'm having some issues with timeouts. I find that whenever I try to create a graph it runs for a little while, returns some nodes, then tells me "exploration timed out." It seems odd to me that I'm getting a timeout while still getting a functional graph. Should I interpret the nodes I get back as an incomplete search? Does the timeout refer to something else?

Hi Paul, yes. The search was cut short because it exceeded the timeout in the settings (defaults to 5 seconds). You can change it here:

As for the cause of slowness - what settings are you using for:

  • number of fields?
  • number of terms from each field?
  • sample size (shown in the above screenshot)?
