How to reset a ES 2.4.1 custer

Hello,

I have a cluster (1 client, 1 master, 2 data, replica=1) and for some reason I unable to put it into a correct state, some indexes and still registered and I can't delete them, REST api fails.
Since it is not in production yet, I'd like to completely reset it the cluster.
I have path.data: /opt/elasticsearch/data so what I did was simple stop elasticsearch on all nodes and delete the content of path.data.
But when I restart the cluster I can still see the indexes and the client node is not able to connect properly to the rest of the cluster.

Question: apart from path.data, is there any other place where ES stores its state?
