Java required on Linux server

I know Elasticserch requres Java version 6 or above. Does it matter what
flavor of Java being used? Specifically
is openjdk/jre distribution of java OK to use to set up Elasticserch on a
Linux server?

As much as I dislike Oracle, I have always found the OpenJDK lacking
compared to the official version.
