Logstash jdbc static plugin staging directory use

Hello Team,

I am planning to use jdbc static plugin for data enrichment.
could you please help me understand the use of staging directory, will it be used to load the incoming data /events for staging or will it load the data which is used to enrich the incoming data/events, is there any recommendation on statging directory disc size.
when i tried looking into the staging directory it was empty. does it deletes the data after enriching.
