Multiple TCP between ES servers

ES version 1.1 ; 50 node cluster ; average rps approx 100k

Seeing a 100s of ESTABLISHED connection between two ES servers. On a 50
node cluster there are about 8k ESTABLISHED connections. Is this how things
are supposed to be?
