New ES installation issues

Hi,

I've installed ES 6.4.3 on Win 10 Enterprise N. My JAVA_HOME is set to:

c:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_192

JRE is installed in c:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_192

I seem to have 2 issues:

I installed the x64 elasticsearch-service but it won't start; the error message reads that the error is a service-specific code 1.

and

when I run elasticsearch.bat I get this error:

| | was expected at this time.

Can anyone offer any suggestions as to what I might have done incorrectly?

Hi,

Can you find and paste the full log of Elasticsearch please ? It should be in /logs/
Do you have configured your elasticsearch.yml ?

Hi Xavier,

There are no log files in the ..\logs folder.

I have not configured the .yml file. I hadn't realized this had to be done. I'll go back and read the documentation. I was under the impression that the software would at least install and run in some basic fashion as a starting point.

Is the fact that I'm not getting a log indicative of the config file not being configured, or does it point to a fundamental issue that ok can troubleshoot first?
