Reuse the old index data

Hi,
I am new to elastic search,
I have recently started getting the red error message in kibana dashboard for elastic search.So i stopped the elastic search service and restarted it. now the restart gets stuck every time with some error of java heap memory out of bound error for replication of shard. The machine is taking data from kafka via logstash. I have kept the index file to some other location now and restarted the ES. its working fine but the old indices are lost. How can i put those indices back to ES. please help!

What did the error message say?

What did the error message say?

What do you mean "the index file"? What do you mean by "kept"? Can you share the commands you used?
