Security... whats changed in 6.3.2

I have previously implemented x-Pack on 6.1.x, and had a trial license, which was subsequently expired.

I didn't use security based on LDAP etc... just created fixed user logins (basiic auth) with which to connect with.

Those still work apparently? but looking at 6.3.2, the suggestion is that there is not even 'basic authentication' security at all on a Basic license?

Security feature has never been part of Basic license. This did not change with 6.3.
