Sort by non indexed field

Is it possible to sort the result by non indexed field?

Not directly. I can be achieved using script-based sorting (see section Script Based Sorting at https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/search-request-sort.html ) but has poor performance.
