One has the term facet, but that can take a long time on a field that has a
lot of distinct values (and fair enough too). In a case of a tool that is
'auto-discovering' fields of an index, it would be nice to check the #
distinct terms in a given field, so that ignoring the term facet for that
field can be done.
there isn't an API for that as far as I can tell. ?
There isn't one. There used to be, but I was not happy with. I plan to try and tackle the term API later (not this version) and make it more usable.
