Terms lookup in a filtered alias

Hello, is a terms lookup query in a filtered alias supposed to be supported? In 6.7.1 and 7.4.2 I am able to execute a terms lookup query directly against an index, but if I try to define a filtered alias on that index with the same terms lookup query it results in the error async actions are left after rewrite. I was going to file a bug in github but I wanted to find out first whether this is expected to work.
