Is it possible to do the _update on documents matching given query or
filter? I don't want to get all documents' ids matching the query and then
update one by one if it is possible.

No, there isn't a way to run an "update by query", there is an issue
already open for this, but its not implemented.

There isn't a date set for it, its a bit tricky to implement, though
obviously not impossible.
