Upgrade log4j to version 2.17

hello,
I have to upgrade log4j to version 2.17
I have elastic with version 7.11.1 and 7.8.0
My question is - can I do it manually on current version on ES or I need to upgrade ES to version 7.16 with log4j installed ?

We do not support upgrading the individual library, you will need to upgrade Elasticsearch.

Both 7.11 nd 7.8 are EOL anyway.
