Best Practices for running ElasticSearch stack in AWS multi region

I am getting ready to upgrade my corporations ElasticSearch stack to R6.3 and at the same time we are looking to move to an AWS multi region environment for our system (we currently are only in 1 region: AWS East) so I am trying to find out the best practices for having the ElasticSearch stack run in a multi region environment.

Also I am make the business case to our company to move to the ElasticSearch hosted solution.

We do not recommend multi-region due to increased latencies, multi AZ in a region is ok though.
