I just installed Kibana version 5.5 and am also using xpack. I currently cannot access the discover tab and i cannot create dashboards. I can access all the other tabs and create visualizations. I am using the elastic user to access kibana.
What happens when you try to access Discover or create a dashboard? Do you get a particular error (either on the page or in your browser's dev console)?

sorry for the late reply. I was able to fix it by reinstall kibana and xpack
