Changing column name for search and visualization

I have a nested JSON in my EMR that I am trying to visualize using kibana. Because of the nesting the field names are long (format word1.word2.word3.word4 .. upto word 8). I am trying to create a simple search query to search for 5 different values. To make the display more user friendly I want to check if I can change the display names of the column to something more user-friendly. Is that possible using Kibana 4?

Also is this possible while creating a table visualization? I can't see an option name to change the names of the data field.

Will really appreciate any help and advice.

Unfortunately, customizing table header names is not possible at the moment, but it's an enhancement we're targeting to a future release: https://github.com/elastic/kibana/issues/4379
