Connecting React to elasticsearch API without using AppSearch (Enterprise Search)

Hello everyone.

I'm working on a feature that my boss asked me to do but I'm having some trouble.
The goal is to connect our React application (generated with Search UI) directly with ElasticSearch without going through Enterprise Search and be able to perform read queries.

Currently, to connect our application, we have to go through AppSearch.

I've looked into the possibility of creating my own connector to link ElasticSearch and our React application but I'm stuck and I'm asking for your help to get some leads and resources.
