Difference in disk.indices and disk.used

Hi,
This post is a follow-up to Difference between disk.indices vs disk.used in cat allocation. I have a node where disk.indices is 4 .1 gb but disk.used is 50 gb. As per the linked post, if ES is only using 4.1 gb, what is taking up the other space. Can i get rid of it?
My instance was provisioned by Elastic and I am not sure if I can directly ssh there to find this out.
