Anyone tried solution like the one mentioned @ https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/asr-managed-disks-between-azure-regions/ for DR strategy? If not, anyone in this forum tried backup/restore solutions that work for disks attached to VMs and have pros/cons from their learning to share?
CCR is one of the cool new feature of ES but we are trying to see all options in table before closing on one!
Thanks
Imran
Note the warning in the reference manual:
It is not possible to back up an Elasticsearch cluster simply by taking a copy of the data directories of all of its nodes. Elasticsearch may be making changes to the contents of its data directories while it is running, and this means that copying its data directories cannot be expected to capture a consistent picture of their contents. Attempts to restore a cluster from such a backup may fail, reporting corruption and/or missing files, or may appear to have succeeded having silently lost some of its data. The only reliable way to back up a cluster is by using the snapshot and restore functionality.
This is also true of filesystem-level snapshots, because snapshots on different nodes happen at different times. You could in theory shut the whole cluster down, snapshot all its disks, and then restart it, but taking filesystem-level snapshots while nodes are still running is risky and unsupported.
Thank you so much @DavidTurner! This helps answer.
