Document size limitations in Sitesearch

Starting investigation to determine if sitesearch will work in our environment. We have approx. 6000 pdf documents that vary in size.
Looking at the document limitations in the API limitations, it indicates that the document size limitation is 100kb.

Has anyone found an easy way around this?
