Elastic Agent Manager generates large core dump files that fill up disk space — how to resolve this?

Hello,

We are using Elastic Agent Manager for centralized agent management. We have noticed that large core dump files are frequently generated on some machines, eventually filling up the disk and causing service disruption.

:plus: Context:

  • The agent is deployed as a DaemonSet on a Kubernetes cluster.
  • We have observed frequent crashes of the Elastic Agent, which seem to result in the generation of these core dump files.
  • The core files can be very large, and they accumulate over time if not manually deleted.

:red_question_mark: Questions:

  1. Why is this happening?" ,"What is the recommended solution?"
  2. Is there a way to disable or limit core dump generation by the Elastic Agent?
  3. Are there best practices to automatically clean up these core dump files?
  4. Is this behavior expected in certain versions of Elastic Agent, or could it indicate a misconfiguration?
  5. How can we prevent the agent from crashing frequently or better manage its stability?
