Elasticsearch not creating index post upgrade to version 6.8.10 from version 5.6.16

Hello Team,

We have ELK stack in our environment for Log management.Recently I upgraded Elasticsearch nodes and Kibana instance from version 5.6.16 to 6.8.10.

Logstash and Beats were not upgraded since they have backward compatibility and support version 6.8.10.

Post upgrade Elasticsearch nodes are not creating any index,Logstash configuration are all fine.

Is there any settings I need to modify in order to have the Index created?

**Logstash Config Checks**:-

root@dfsyd1log01:/usr/share/logstash# bin/logstash -f config/conf.d/input-syslog-logstash --config.test_and_exit
Sending Logstash's logs to /var/log/logstash which is now configured via log4j2.properties
Configuration OK

root@dfsyd1log01:/usr/share/logstash# bin/logstash -f config/conf.d/output_elasticsearch_syd1 --config.test_and_exit
Sending Logstash's logs to /var/log/logstash which is now configured via log4j2.properties
Configuration OK

root@dfsyd1log01:/usr/share/logstash# bin/logstash -f config/conf.d/output_elasticsearch_mel1 --config.test_and_exit
Sending Logstash's logs to /var/log/logstash which is now configured via log4j2.properties
Configuration OK

Can someone please help me if i should update the Index Template so to allow the Index creation in version 6.8.10.

Thanks,
Vignesh.

My guess is that there is something in the index template that is not compatible. Is there anything in the Elasticsearch logs?

Hey Christian,

Thanks for your response.Actually the issue is resolved now.I deleted the old Logstash Template that was not compatible with the Elasticsearch version as you mentioned. Now the Index is getting created without any issues.
