ElasticSearch version 5.0.1 changes

I was previously using ElasticSearch v2.4.0.

When I use ElasticSearch v5.0.1 for the same number of records, the size of index increases by around 30-40%, when viewed in cat/indices.
Is there any specific upgrade in the latest version that may be causing this?

Doc values are enabled by default, so it'll depend on your mappings.

The doc values are enabled and the mappings are the same in both versions.
Still, the index size is greater in v5.0.1 by around 30-40%.

Any other reason that you might be aware of?

Yes it is.

Do you have deleted docs? Have you tried a force merge?

There are no deleted docs. The index is completely new.

And how will force merge be useful? I have only one index.
