How can I add an Elasticsearch filter in Discover?

If I want to write add an Elasticsearch filter in the Discover tab, do I always have to press the magnifying glass, then edit what I get or can I also get an empty Elasticsearch query thingie?

I've looked here: https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/kibana/5.0/search.html

But it doesn't explain what workflow I should use to filter with DSL in Discover.

There isn't a way to create an empty filter, so the best way currently is to add one and edit it. The searchbar will also take the elasticsearch DSL:
