How can path.conf parameter working? If it is in config/elasticsearch.yml

Hi,
Since, when elasticsearch start, it gets configuration from
config/elasticsearch.yml file, what the path.conf parameter do?
Is this parameter useful?????
How can I correctly use it?

./bin/elasticsearch -Des.path.conf=/my/conf.yaml
