How to set `index.codec: best_compression` as the default for all future indices?

Pretty much what the subject says. How to I turn on best_compression as the default for all new indices?

The docs explain how to do it per index. But I haven't found anything on setting it as the default.

Nor has google been much help. Just a mention of a deprecated elasticsearch.yml option from 5.x era...

You need to set it in an index template.

Except all my index templates are managed by Elastic Agent. :\ Hmm... Maybe I can do something to the agent config? I'll look into that idea...
