- Is there any type of authentication that is required for ES nodes to communicate with each other? So in the communication between master nodes and data nodes is there any auth happening without which they wont be able to communicate and new nodes would not be able to add to the cluster?

Yes, nodes are authenticated to each other with mutual TLS authentication in the transport layer.
No. Authentication realms are for users/clients connecting to Elasticsearch ( via the HTTP layer ).
