Is it safe to install more recent Logstash Kafka plugin?

Hey,
I see that logstash-input-kafka plugin is behind in the release than in the repo (currently v5.1.11 vs v8.0.2). I'd like to use it with kafka 0.11 which seems to be supported from v6.3.3.
Is it safe to use?

I also have an issue with regards to logstash-input-kafka.
I want to output the data from kafka to elasticsearch but it doesn't work.
