When installing kafka with the ELK suite, is it mandatory to install zookeeper if you take the latest version?

As I understand it, Kafka maintained client compatibility when the self-managed quorum was introduced, so the existing plugin should continue to work. Note that even in Kafka 3.x this feature is not recommended for production, just for testing.
