Nowadays, vertical space on screens is limited anyway since everything is wide-screen.
IMHO There is too much space going to waste on the Kibana 7.x Discovery screen. Notice how large parts of the upper right corner (the three rows) are just empty.
Previous versions used that space more optimally:
