Kibana7.1 - Getting "unable to find usable node.js executable" after running ./kibana --oss

Hi all,
I'm getting message "unable to find usable node.js executable" after running ./kibana --oss and couldn't get Kibana up and running.

Kibana server OS - Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS
Installation steps:

  1. git clone https://github.com/elastic/kibana/
  2. cd kibana
  3. git checkout 7.1
  4. yarn kbn bootstrap
  5. ./kibana --oss

Do I miss any steps?

Can you please share the output of which node? Also check out this issue for more info: Unable to find usable Node.js executable. · Issue #40716 · elastic/kibana · GitHub

Thanks
Rashmi

Hi rashmi, thanks for helping out.

which node returns '/home/ubuntu/.nvm/versions/node/v10.15.2/bin/node'

I couldn't even launch kibana with 'node --trace-warnings --trace-deprecation scripts/kibana --dev --oss'

I'm getting error below:

I also notice comment from "tylersmalley" below. Should I download kibana from https://www.elastic.co/downloads/kibana instead?

"You should not download from Github as a zip. Code hosted on Github is meant to be run from source. We provide a production build of Kibana here: https://www.elastic.co/downloads/kibana"
