Logstash refuses to bind to port 9600

Hi all,

Using Logstash 6. I have:

http.host: "0.0.0.0"
http.port: 9600-9700
xpack.monitoring.enabled: true
xpack.monitoring.elasticsearch.hosts: ["http://10.1.96.89:9200", "http://10.1.96.90:9200", "http://10.1.96.91:9200"]

Logstash starts up fine and operates as normal (even xpack monitoring license succeeds), but it does not bind to http.port, nor are errors produced. The "Enabling API Endpoint" message never appears. Enabling debug mode, I can clearly see http.port is being passed. I tried high port ranges just in case it was selinux.

I'm really lost as to what else could be preventing it from binding.

Would appreciate anyone's insight.

Thanks

# Settings can be specified either in hierarchical form, e.g.:
#
# pipeline:
# batch:
# size: 125

#
# Or as flat keys:
#
# pipeline.batch.size: 125
# pipeline.batch.delay: 5
#
# ------------ Node identity ------------
#
# Use a descriptive name for the node:
#
# node.name: test
#
# If omitted the node name will default to the machine's host name
#
# ------------ Data path ------------------
#
# Which directory should be used by logstash and its plugins
# for any persistent needs. Defaults to LOGSTASH_HOME/data

netstat -plant shows 0 listening ports for LogStash (I have no tcp inputs. I read flat files and spit them out so all I would expect is the monitoring api)

I also started logstash with: /usr/share/logstash/bin/logstash --path.settings /etc/logstash --debug, as root. Still no bind.

I figured it out.

In my pipelines.yml I have multiple pipelines defined off the back of my CI platform.

In it was a test pipeline we abandoned that was using RabbitMQ. I left the config in there, but knew it to be abandoned. RabbitMQ provider was error'ing out. I thought nothing of it because, well - all the other pipelines run. One I@m not interested in is having an error, why would it affect another? Low and behold, disabling an erroring pipeline allowed the API to spin up on port 9600 as desired.

Odd behavior.
