Order of upgrading client and upgrading cluster?

I'm going to upgrade my 6.8.2 cluster to 7.4.1 and also rest high level client.
There might be a time window when client version and cluster version are different:

  • client 6.8.2 with cluster 7.4.1, if I upgrade cluster first.
  • client 7.4.1 with cluster 6.8.2, if I upgrade client first.

Which one is supported regarding compatibility?

The docs say:

The client should always be updated last, once all of the nodes in the cluster have been upgraded to the new major version.

As long as your usage of the 6.8.2 client avoids all deprecated features it will continue to work against a 7.4.1 cluster.
