Problem with logstash as a service (RHEL)

I have a problem with logstash that I don't understand. It works fine with command but as a service it doesn't work.

I have placed my configuration file in /etc/logstash/conf.d/test.conf
I have checked the permission and it's ok. I have also checked the logstash log in /var/logstash but there is nothing. I have a logstash-plain.log file but the latest message is from july 5.

One culprit may be the logstash.yml file. If the entries are not correct, and properly indented from the far left, Logstash will not start properly.

This thread describes exactly this problem, and it solved things for that user.
