Proper setup for ElasticSearch on EC2 and the app on Heroku?

I'm having trouble trying to identify the proper way to handle Heroku

  • ES on EC2. I'm not seeing a mechanism for securing the data and
    because it's Heroku, I can't poke specific holes in the instance just
    for the server (non static IP).

Has anyone successfully done this? How did you do it or how would you
go about it?
